Newborn styled session for 3 months old baby Madilyn

Baby Madilyn and Mom came to our Durham studio from Cary. They moved from California at the beginning of this year and sadly were not able to do a newborn session for baby Madilyn due to the Covid 19 Pandemic restrictions. The ideal timeframe for a newborn session is between 5 and 14 days after birth because during these few days babies are in a slumber sleep state. Therefore, it is easier to pose babies while they are sleeping and they are more flexible during this time. In the case of baby Madilyn at 3 months old, we did some simple poses as she is no longer as flexible and was more sensitive to touch and noise. When mom contacted me for her session I was hoping we could do a newborn style session or at least some sleeping and some awake poses at the very least. I was particularly excited when we worked on styling her session and mom requested a vintage classic style and wanted to incorporate a mirror and wings. I was able to make her custom wings and set up a stage for the mirror pictures. Photographing mirrors is particularly challenging, I was not sure how I would incorporate a mirror in a newborn session at first; then it occurred to me that I could work with angles to achieve the mirror image and mom and I could not be happier with the results! I used some of my favorite props and accessories like the little wooden bed from @rozziraynestudioprops, backdrop floor from @intuitionbackdrops, curly layer from @ollywoolbabyprps and the pretty neutral flower halo from @silvercloverdesigns. We were happy to capture some beautiful newborn like posed images for baby Madilyn and some beautiful mom and baby portraits just in time for father's day. Baby Madilyn will be returning for her first year milestone at 6,9, and 12 months and I will be looking forward to incorporating one or two items from her first session to see her growths through her first year.
